In studying geometry, we gain an insight in the raw structure of logic and proof. Euclidean geometry gives us a framework for deductive reasoning that transcends just shapes and begins to probe into the bigger epistemological questions of what do we know and how do we know it.

However, geometry is too often taught as something to memorize. Equations are presented as de facto truths with little or no explanation as to why they work. This means that we are teaching geometry, the language of proof, by asking students to accept ideas on blind faith. The irony is maddening, and it is no wonder why mathematics is so often misunderstood and reviled.

Being able to calculate the circumference of area of a circle is innately useful, but more powerful than that is the process of breaking apart complexity, finding patterns, and distilling those relationships into equations.

Thread Circle explores these patterns in circles and how to tackle the challenge of measuring someting round.

Discovering the irrational value of pi gives a perfect opportunity to dive deeper into an idea that may on its surface seem messy and confusing and to be able to expand one's way of thinking.

Ultimately, Thread Circle is about more than the formulae of a circle; it's a journey into logical problem solving.

Thread Circle is currently on the film festival circuit with more information to follow.
